What are Core Web Vitals?

Core Web Vitals are user experience metrics that are part of Google’s Page Experience signals. Visual load is measured by Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), visual stability by Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and interactivity by First Input Delay (FID).

Google’s Core Web Vitals (CVW) metrics are a set of standardized site speed metrics gathered from real people using Google Chrome who visit your website. This is the data that Google uses in its ranking algorithm, and failure to meet these metrics will result in errors and warnings in Google Search Console.

Server Response Time/ Time to First Byte (TTFB)

We target 0.1-0.2 seconds in the areas where the site is being hosted whereas 0.2-0.4 seconds worldwide. Although not a core metric, it’s a web vital metric that leads to the immediate loading of your site.

First Contentful Paint Time (FCP)

This is when the user notices something begins to load. It is the time when the first piece of content is displayed. Notably, it is also not a core web vital metric but a web vitals metric. It is critical for user experience.

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

First Input Delay (FID)

This is how quickly the site responds to the user’s first input. Because this metric can only be measured in the real world, we concentrate on a combination of time to interact (under 3.5-3.8 seconds) and total blocking time (under 190-200ms).
